The vivid golden yellow of this Dendrochilum from the Philippines is really beautiful. Described only in 1989, it is relatively new to the cultivation world and is named after Elias Javier, an orchid nurseryman from the Philippines.
Its natural habitat is above 1000 metres but with perhaps a bit more light than other Dendrochilums. However, I find it is a really easy, tough orchid and pieces that I have hacked off for friends have started instantly. But, remember that it is still a Dendrochilum and does love warmth and humidity and good fresh sphagnum moss with good drainage.
Javieri is a bit bigger than most Dendrochilums but is still a small plant and with its stiff upright leaves, requires little space. Its potential as a huge specimen plant challenges the imagination.
Rating: ♦♦♦♦♦ This is a truly beautiful orchid and one that everyone should own.
Sometimes sold as: Dendrochilum javieriense and javierii and very commonly sold as Dendrochilum wenzellii 'Yellow'.
